Kilwell Xtreme II rods are designed in New Zealand specifically for trout fishing.
The Xtreme II Harling rod is designed with a light action that will cope
with a short length of heavy lead line but is still sensitive enough to see when the action
of your lure is just right.

The Kilwell XP3000 Trolling/Harling reel is a light weight levelwind reel that sits on top of your rod for
better control. The levelwind system will lay the line back on the reel perfectly when retrieving the line.
The reel also features an anti reverse feature and a smooth drag.
It has the bonus of a line warning clicker for when you get a strike.
This combo is supplied spooled with 20m of lead line to braid backing.

Top tip; The ideal speed for harling is about walking speed, between 1 to 2 km/h.
With a Tassie Devil lure the rod tip should be nodding gently.

Like all Kilwell products this has a Kilwell Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Harling fishing, also known as "trolling," is a fishing technique where anglers use a rod and reel to pull lures or baited hooks behind a moving boat. The primary goal is to target fish species that are typically found in open water or in the pelagic zone. This method is often employed to catch fish like trout and salmon, and it can be a very effective way to cover large areas of water and locate actively feeding fish.

How Harling Works:
1. **Setup**: Anglers generally use one or more rods, each equipped with a suitable lure (such as spoons, flies, or artificial baits) that mimics the movement of prey fish.
2. **Speed**: The boat is typically moved at a slow speed, which allows the lure to swim at the proper depth and action to entice fish.
3. **Depth Control**: Anglers can adjust the depth at which their lures run by varying the length of the line let out or by using weights.

Where to Use Harling in New Zealand:
New Zealand offers a diverse range of fishing opportunities, and harling is particularly popular in several locations:

1. **Lake Taupo**: Known for its trophy trout fishing, Lake Taupo is a prime location for harling, especially for targeting rainbow and brown trout.

2. Lakes (such as Lakes Te Anau and Rotorua) are also great spots for harling, particularly in spring and autumn when fish are most active.

3. **South Island's Sounds**: The Marlborough Sounds and Fiordland are renowned for both freshwater and saltwater trolling, with opportunities to catch kingfish, snapper, and other species.

4. **Lake Wakatipu**: This scenic lake in Queenstown offers excellent harling opportunities for both trout and salmon.

5. **Fishing Charters**: Many fishing charter companies along the coast also use harling techniques to target deep-water species like blue cod and hapuku in the offshore regions.

Best Times for Harling:
- **Season**: Spring and autumn generally offer the best conditions for harling in New Zealand, as fish are more likely to be active and feeding.
- **Time of Day**: Early mornings and evenings tend to be the most productive times for fishing.

When harling in New Zealand, be sure to check local regulations regarding limits, seasons, and any specific rules related to the waters you are fishing in. This will help ensure sustainable fishing practices.
